Khao Kang review – when do I visit again?

$9.50 for a plate of rice and three sides? Oh yes, please sign me up! I wish this was a sponsored post, but for now, I shall relive the terrific experience Kenny and I had at Khao Kang.

I had tried Khao Nom (sister restaurant) a few weeks before trying Khao Kang so I was honestly hyped up.

Khao Kang has over 12 choices of dishes for you to select from. I was suffering from the paradox of choice (there was also a line behind us) and was asked if I wanted some recommendations (thank you, I appreciated that so much).

We ended up getting the following:

1. Fried Garlic Pork- This is SO GOOD. Sweet and well seasoned. I can smell and taste it all the way from home. It really reminded us of moo ping. Honestly, I cannot rave about this dish enough. We were given a generous portion so if you could have pork, this dish is a must-try.
   
2. Mung Bean Noodles (aka glass noodles)- This dish was so fragnant! It had a sesame/fish sauce smell to it and as my boyfriend said “it was borderline intoxicating.” He was definitely judging me for choosing this dish but when he discovered how amazing it was, he stole a great chunk of it. This came with some pieces of shrimp (again, a generous amount was given). I have nothing else to say, but that this was one of our favorites.
   
3. Chive/egg/shrimp combo- I was blown away by the smell and taste. DELICIOUS. Even veggie haters could not possibly despise this one!
   
4. Green Chicken Curry– It was spicy, but tasty spicy. It contains bamboo shoots and other veggies. It has a slight kaffir lime smell. Overall, a nice balance of sweet, salty, and spicy.
   
5. Spicy Minced Pork with Green Beans– This contains Thai chilies and was very fragrant and tasty (Kenny’s type of spicy). If you love spicy food, this will most likely be a must-have for you.
6. Spicy Fried Fish– This was the one I actually liked the least. It was good, but it’s just lacking something that I cannot put into words. It does come with a few pieces of eggplant though!
7. Grass Jelly Drink- Nice chunks of herbal jelly, sweetness just right, and super refreshing drink.
8. Thai Iced Tea- Simply delectable. I want more.
9. Longan Juice- This came off to us as odd at first. The boyfriend said it tasted like cane juice with longan but that it was great nonetheless, and very sweet.

My overall verdict? You should definitely give it a try if you haven’t already and are in the neighborhood. They offer an extremely affordable price for scrumptious food at a nice, laid-back, cafeteria-like restaurant. Kenny must have repeated “WOW” a thousand times after our dinner. I cannot wait to revisit.
