My go-to quick fun fact has been about kickboxing. Kickboxing, you heard right. It sounds intense and badass because it is!

Before I started my first class ever back in 2016, my stomach was in knots. I was watching the previous class do the 15-minute warm up exercises and died inside. Oh shoot, I can’t do that!!! That’s…what, oh my goodness…I’m going to pass out! 

I was sloppy and took a huge hiatus from kickboxing from November 2017 to middle of May 2018 because, well, life happened. Also, when you don’t go for that long, you have trouble convincing yourself that it’s a good idea to go. Starting is always the hardest part.

In early May, my kickboxing buddy Shirley and I were talking about needing to go kickbox again without stopping so long in between. May 19th came around and we started up and reminded one another that we would have to keep ourselves accountable, stay the course and be consistent- it was a thing we probably mentioned us needing to keep to a billion times over but never held ourselves overly accountable for, but guess what?

This week marks week 13 that I’ve been consistently going to kickbox over the weekends (Shirley is currently in Vegas soaking up the sunshine–Shirls, you owe them 100 burpees when you’re back).

I’m so proud of us.

Courage comes from being consistent.

In my “I am my own competition” post, I mentioned how overnight success doesn’t just happen. It rarely happens that way. Most successful people put in the time and effort to get to where they are. It takes persistence and consistent prioritizing and dedication.

Fear comes from lack of understanding or experience. With time dedicated to kickboxing, I realized the power of practice. The power of progress.

I now look forward to doing burpees, push ups, squats, tricep dips, sit ups, roundhouse kicks on the bag, and sweating buckets on Saturdays and Sundays.

I feel stronger. I feel motivated to push myself more. I feel more accomplished after every kickboxing class.
